The name of Taejongdae originated from a legend that King Muyeol of Silla Kingdom, the 29th king, practiced archery here after the unification of Three Kingdoms. As the reign of the King Muyeol is between 654 and 661 AD, the name, Taejongdae has been used for about 1,400 years.
Taejongdae designated as Busan Metropolitan City Cultural Property No.28 (Jun.26 1972) is located on the southernmost point of the Yeongdo Coast. It is 250m high at its summit. A circular road of 4.3km long and 7m wide has been built around the mid slope.
Taejogdae offers enchanting sceneries as if only the most beautiful things like the thick evergreen forest, rock cliff, and sound of waves were gathered. Anybody can get there easily and relax for a day. It is one of the most popular tourist spots frequented by Koreans and foreigners alike.
