To pray for the souls of sailors died on the sea to make Korea one of the top maritime transportation nations in the world, the cenotaph for Sea Men was built at San 26-1, Dongsam-dong on Apr. 12 1979 according to the suggestion of National Maritime Union.

Especially this cenetaph was built at 100m above sea level to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the opening of Busan Port.

The engraving of five angles on the round continent representing the earth symbolizes the strong will and spirit of Korean sailors.
